A key role in infrastructure and security of supply

A significant amount of the electricity generated is used to supply Deutsche Bahn – the German railway system. Up to 413 megawatts can be fed into the railway power grid. This corresponds to around a quarter of the electricity required by the railway. The remaining electricity flows into the national grid and contributes to the stability of the energy system.

Modern technology and environmental monitoring

To minimise environmental impact, high electrical efficiency and fuel utilisation are essential. At the Datteln power station, this is achieved through particularly high process temperatures and optimised processes in district heating generation. Operations are accompanied by comprehensive environmental monitoring, which has been recording data on air, soil, water and climate since construction began. The results are regularly evaluated and published. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, the power station’s emission levels are well below the permitted limits.
