Datteln 4 power plant becomes part of the energy company Onyx Power
- Owner ResInvest Group integrates Datteln 4 into European energy company
- Datteln 4 strengthens Onyx Power as an integrated energy platform
- Combined generation capacity of around 3.1 gigawatts
Prague/Berlin, 3 August 2026 – ResInvest Group, a privately owned trading and investment company, has integrated the Datteln 4 power station into Onyx Power. Both Onyx Power, a European energy company with several power stations in Germany and the Netherlands, and the Datteln 4 power station were recently acquired by ResInvest.
The merger aims to leverage synergies, further strengthen Onyx Power’s market position and develop the company as an integrated platform for thermal energy generation in Europe. The integration of Datteln 4 increases Onyx Power’s total installed net capacity to around 3.1 gigawatts. Collaboration between the teams has already begun, and full integration will be completed in the coming months.
Tomáš Novotný, Chairman of the ResInvest Group: “We are delighted to have successfully merged the two companies. The Datteln 4 power station makes an important contribution to a secure supply of electricity and heat. Furthermore, as one of Deutsche Bahn’s main suppliers of electricity, this modern power station contributes to the mobility of millions of people in Germany. The integration is an important step towards further expanding Onyx Power as a strong platform in the European energy market.”
Dr Peter Feldhaus, CEO of Onyx Power: “With Datteln 4, we are expanding our portfolio to include one of the most modern and efficient power stations in Europe. By combining our strengths, we will be even better positioned to serve the market, as well as our customers and partners, in the future. We are very much looking forward to working with our new colleagues and to driving the further development of Onyx Power together.”
Since it went into operation in 2020, the modern power plant on the Dortmund-Ems Canal has been supplying up to 413 MW – a quarter of the electricity required by Deutsche Bahn – as one of its main suppliers. The rest is traded on the market. In addition, more than 100,000 households in the northern Ruhr region are reliably supplied with district heating. With a net electrical output of 1,052 MW, the use of combined heat and power, and an overall efficiency of up to 60 per cent, the power plant meets the highest standards for efficient and resource-saving energy generation.
